Author: Rena Pirsos, XpertHR Legal Editor
The unemployment insurance (UI) content of several states has been updated to reflect new laws taking effect on various dates in 2013 in order to conform to a federal requirement. The laws penalize employers for benefit overpayments caused by the employers' failure to properly respond to state UI agency requests for information about underlying claims. They go into effect on the following dates in these states:
- July 1: Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, New Mexico, South Dakota, Virginia and Wyoming
- August 7: Colorado
- October 1: Maryland, Montana, New York and Texas
- October 20: Washington
- October 21: Alabama, Kentucky, Nevada and North Dakota
- October 22: California and Idaho
XpertHR will continue to provide updates as more states enact similar conforming laws.
